"How do you stop a cat from meow loudly in the morning?"

[From the daughter's point of view] My cat Missy starts meowing very loud at like 5:00am. What should I do?

Assuming that she's not meowing due to a problem such as pain or hunger and she's just trying to get you out of bed, the best thing is to ignore her. I know it's hard to ignore a noisy cat, but if you respond to her meowing and get up to give her food or attention, she'll learn that meowing will get her what she wants. If you reward the behavior, you reinforce the behavior, even if you only respond sometimes. But if you just lie still and don't get up or feed her or talk to her, she'll quickly learn that she doesn't gain anything by meowing at you in the early morning hours.

My cats respond well to having a regular schedule for their mealtimes. They have excellent internal clocks and they know what time they get breakfast, so they generally don't try to get us up to feed them earlier.
